Candle care guide

We would love to make sure you get the best experience from all our products, especially whilst burning our candles.

To optimise the best results, please consider the following:

  • Keep your wick clean and trimmed to ¼ inch/6mm

  • To prevent tunnelling and to promote a clean even burn, always burn your candle long enough for the liquid wax to pool right to the edge of the glass before extinguishing your flame

  • Please do not burn for more than 4 hours

  • For safety, never leave a lit candle unattended or near a draught and protect the surface it sits on

What is tunnelling?

Tunnelling happens when only a small portion of the wax around the wick melts while the candle is burning. Instead of having the entire surface of the wax melt evenly, it will appear as though the flame is burrowing into the candle and creating what resembles a small, vertical tunnel.

If you forgot to allow a full even wax pool before you extinguished your flame, you can try the tips below on your next burn.

Restoration tip 1: Heat gun/hair blow dryer method.

  • Simply heat the top surface of the wax until it's completely melted and smoothed over.

  • Relight your candle and allow it to burn for at least 30 minutes or until you can no longer see any tunnelling.

Restoration tip 2: Aluminium foil method.

  • Cut a small opening (around 1-inch) in the centre of the aluminium foil.

  • Remove the aluminium foil, light the wick, then place the foil cover back on.

  • Allow the candle to burn for a few hours until the top surface of wax has completely melted and smoothed over.
